About the event
When a 13-year-old boy first heard these keyboard notes from the song "(Get A) Grip (On Yourself)" blasting out of his cousin’s stereo way back in early 1977, his love of the music of The Stranglers started. With a group of like-minded friends, an unforgettable journey then began, a journey following a band who would provide “the soundtrack to our lives”, from the early days of the UK punk rock scene right through to the present day.
In this heart-warming and nostalgic show, Norfolk national award-winning performance storyteller and creative singer/songwriter, Andrew Brammer, recounts humorous and poignant memories and anecdotes from the first part of that journey (1977 – 1982) and performs acoustic versions and reinterpretations of classic and timeless Stranglers songs from that period. Join Andrew as he pulls from his love and encyclopaedic knowledge of all things ‘Stranglers’ for this very different show to his regular ‘Stumpy Sanderson’s 1970s Stories’ works.
This new show has been written as a tribute to the 50th Anniversary of The Stranglers in 2024. Over the years, Andrew has played many times at Anteros, as well as performing around the UK and Ireland.
Here are just some snippets of what people have said about his previous shows:
- “A fantastic evening. Andrew is an amazing storyteller.”
- “This was fabulous. Andrew is a master storyteller. We spent the evening being transported back to our own 1970s.”
- “Today I wish I had a million followers so that more people could hear about Andrew’s marvellous urban storytelling.”
- “I was fortunate enough to witness Andrew perform an impromptu acoustic rendition of Hanging Around at the end of one of his shows - a true ‘goosebump moment’. If you love The Stranglers, you’ll love this!”
