About the event
The early music trio Hexachordia presents a programme of Shakespearean words and music entitled "The Food of Love". Singing and playing on instruments such as the lute, viol, recorder and renaissance guitar, Hexachordia plays Elizabethan music inspired by quotations from the Bard’s work by composers such as Thomas Morley and John Dowland.
Hexachordia offers a fresh approach to early music, and they have a strong track record of performing entertaining concerts to a wide range of audiences across the country. The musicians believe that placing music into context brings both the historic period and the music itself to life. Hexachordia recreates the instrumental flexibility that was a key feature in music-making at the time. The ability to play several different musical instruments and the possession of a good singing voice was essential for professional musicians. Each of them, therefore, specialises in a range of instruments of this period, allowing them to perform a wide range of ensemble music in different instrumental and vocal combinations.
