About the event
Join us as founder of The Big Issue and life peer Lord John Bird MBE talks about his remarkable life:
Born into poverty in Notting Hill and homeless as a child, John’s early life was marked by crime, reform schools, and time in young offenders’ institutions. His life changed when he learned to read at 16 and discovered a passion for art in a reformatory, eventually earning a place at Chelsea School of Art at 18. After early struggles with relationships and fatherhood, he became a professional printer. At 42, he reconnected with a wealthy old friend who funded his idea for The Big Issue.
Known for his humour, passion, and commitment to social justice, John promises an entertaining and inspiring talk not to be missed!
This will be a fundraising event for Anteros Arts Foundation (No. 1135692).
