Professional Development: Cultivating a Reflective Practice for Artists with Liz Monahan
Course takes place over two Friday afternoons 25th September and 2nd October.
1pm - 4pm
Elizabeth's class on Reflective Practice will sharpen your understanding of what a reflective practice is, and demonstrate how this can be an effective approach as an artist, to growth and progression. The class will offer tools and exercises including 'free writing' and 'mind-mapping' to help you become a reflective practitioner. Students will learn through presentation, hand-outs, group and pair discussion and by producing written work throughout the afternoon. Students may find it useful to bring photos of their creative practice and any notebooks/sketchbooks in which they already write or document their work.
Tutor: Liz Monahan
Elizabeth is a figurative artist whose practice is primarily concerned with ideas of identity, emotion and narrative. Most recently she has produced a series of large-scale works based on her own family's Brownie Box 'snaps'. These intimate yet ambiguous images use drawing to explore the poignant links between photography, time and memory. Elizabeth has also worked as an illustrator and an English teacher. Her love of literature, language and storytelling continue to inform and influence her artwork. Elizabeth teaches drawing as part of the Anteros Arts Diploma and also Tutors students on a one to one basis to guide them in developing their own style of work.
