Thursday 21st February -  7pm doors for 7:30 start

Miranda Sykes, the acclaimed singer and bassist with acclaimed folk-roots ‘Show of Hands’, is returning to her roots. After a career spanning over 20 years, during which time she has played with many of the top musicians and singers within the folk world, she’s touring as she started out - one woman, one bass, and one guitar.

With a family pedigree steeped in contemporary folk and traditional music Miranda was already established as a respected bass player when invited to join Show of Hands in 2004 as a summer festivals guest.  She continues to be a key member of the band, recording nine albums with them to date.

She also famously toured with mandolin player Rex Preston for eight years, releasing three albums together.

Miranda has many years’ experience working in the community on the Live Music Now! scheme providing participatory concerts in hospitals, special schools, secure units, homes for the elderly, hospices, day centres, mainstream schools, recovery units, sheltered housing and hospital schools. She also works as a social tutor for Sense UK, working with people who are deaf/blind and have challenging behaviour.

Since 2017 Miranda has been touring her solo show Borrowed Places and recorded an album of the same name. The theme drew inspiration from the songs and landscapes of her native Lincolnshire but seen through the eyes of someone who had lived away for many years. With her sensational voice, and accompanying herself, Miranda interprets the soul of the land and takes her audience on a journey that resonates with us all, wherever we live.

Now she’s back with a new project. Where Borrowed Places opened a window into the past, Behind the Wall is a roller-coaster ride exploring where we are going - Miranda, you, me, all of us. Powerful and hard-hitting but also poignant and beautiful, the album and tour gives us all a chance to reflect and empower ourselves.
