Class runs on two dates the 1st of June or the 21st of June
10.00am - 4.00pm
A day class on underpinning the techniques of bookbinding, taught by Judith Ellis.
Learn the exacting craft of bookbinding:
During this day-long class you will learn that there is far more to paper craft than you at first thought. Every choice you make when binding your sketchbook, for example what adhesive you use, how you fold the paper, what material you select for the cover, will impact on the technique and the aesthetic of the finished piece.
No prior knowledge or experience is required; our expert tutor will guide you through the process and explain the deviations and tricks you may use along the way. All materials and printed notes will be provided.
Tutor: Judith Ellis
Judith took an unconventional path to bookbinding, having trained and worked as a vet, she took a course in the subject at West Dean and then had the opportunity to acquire a bookbinder's workshop contents. She began weekly lessons in the subject of bookbinding here in Norfolk. She began competing each year, and winning occasionally, the Designer Bookbinders competition where each entrant is given the same unbound copy of a Folio Society book.
Judith furthered her craft in London, studying under Mark Cockram and began exhibiting her work with the Designer Bookbinders at the Flow Gallery in Notting Hill. She began teaching from home in 2007.
